Trentino, land of Open Innovation

Trentino and Open Innovation

Open innovation is a model of innovation where structured companies use external resources (startups, SMEs, universities, programmers, etc.) to create more value and better compete in the global market. This is the approach required for anyone looking forward to innovate their own company, whether it is a large corporation or a small company.

Open Innovation is one of the pillars of Smau, the main business matching platform in Italy in the fields of innovation and digital technologies for companies and local public administrations. The Innovation Awards, which are awarded at every stage of Smau events, are meant to acknowledge companies and public bodies for the results obtained by following the open philosophy, so that a virtuous process of comparison and contamination of good practices can be triggered.

One of the success stories awarded in Milan is the BIC Open Challenge programme, aiming to connect innovative micro and small enterprises in the Italian ecosystem with medium and large enterprises located in the Business Innovation Centres (B.I.C.) owned by Trentino Sviluppo, in order to find technological solutions to solve issues related to product or process innovation in the light of Open Innovation.

Both Trentino Sviluppo and TechnoAlpin took part in the Smau Milano event. TechnoAlpin, a company that designs and manufactures snow-making systems for ski resorts worldwide, in cooperation with Trentino Sviluppo, created the BIC Open Challenge 2019 initiative, an open innovation challenge, ongoing until November 18th, 2019, aiming to shape a data lake as an extension of the company's cloud platform in order to schedule artificial snow making.
