Trentino Design 3.0

An innovative open call for designers, jointly developed by several stakeholders operating in Trentino in the retail of home furniture and accessories, with the aim of establishing a local supply chain that can support local manufacturing companies and forge a strong bond between design, the retailing industry, and local enterprises. This is the idea at the core of Trentino Design 3.0, an initiative launched on October 1 by Trentino Sviluppo in partnership with the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano and the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento.

The call is open to all designers, who will have to present their ideas on three specific products in the field of home furniture and accessories. Three prizes worth 5,000 euros are at stake. Applications must be presented by November 16.

The first edition of Trentino Design 3.0 is held under the auspices of the Italian National Association of Industrial Design (ADI), POLI.design, DesignHUB, the Italian National Coordination centre for Young Architects (GiArch), and the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento.

The open call focuses on three main innovation sectors. First of all, design, since it provides designers with a concrete opportunity to present their ideas by addressing a specific project for commercial purposes in a format that puts at stake 5,000 euros as well as a copyright agreement with a local enterprise. Secondly, manufacturing, because it will allow the enterprises of Trentino to launch new products in a well-established retailing chain in partnership with the winners of the competition. Finally, retailing, because it will place the retailers of Trentino in a favourable position to enhance local manufacturing by establishing a new relationship with customers, testing the possibilities offered by a production chain where local manufacturers play the leading role.

This initiative is open to young designers and it is based on three main project briefs jointly identified by the retailers involved: a system designed for the management of cloths of the type “hang and iron”, a mini movable desk for laptops and handheld devices but also for eating while in bed or on the couch, and finally an “open kit” system for modular furniture solutions with several storage functions (nightstand, shelf, small cabinet, or cupboard).

Applicants shall develop one of these three concepts, sending their innovative and original projects by 6 PM (GMT+1) of November 16, 2015, filling in the application form available on the website www.designhub.it/puntodesign.

By December 2015, a panel of experts will select the winners. Further information can be found on the websites www.trentinosviluppo.it and www.designhub.it/puntodesign.
