M4T: innovative apps and web systems for tourism

M4T - Mobile for Tourism

A flexible platform able to manage multiple sources of data, which serves up-to-date, innovative and safe apps. These apps will offer to tourist visiting Trentino a wide range of services and a complete set of information.

These are the first results of the “M4T – Mobile for Tourism” project, funded in its prototype phase by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The project involves three local companies (Trient Consulting Group, Decima Rosa Video and the “Effe e Erre” lithography, and the research activities of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento.

Some of the projects key points are: focusing on tourism, a strategic field for the Province, using and making available open data, and involving companies operating in traditionals sectors, which thanks to new technologies will be able to innovate and be competitive.

The product is already available for some areas of Trentino, starting from Madonna di Campiglio, which has been involved in the development), and is ready to be marketed in other mountain areas abroad.

The main goal of the Mobile 4 Tourism project is to build an app for tourism, using new and sustainable technologies (multimedia and social networks), starting from an accurate analysis of communication strategies. Some of the main innovations of the app are: interactive ski slopes guides, creating and sending real postcards, and the availability of geolocalised information, link events and offers.

The app's look and feel is simple but engaging, through “explicit” information (collected from the built-in navigator) and “implicit” ones (provided by users navigation and location data, if authorised). All this information offers services personalised and up-to-date, able to provide an enhanced experience of potential tourists in the territory. It's also an opportunity for the local tourist stakeholders (cultural associations, market operators, tourist offices), which will be able to use the platform to promote their initiatives and receive feedback by users. In this way, stakeholders can improve their touristic offer, collecting needs and remarks directly from the tourists.
