In 2015 over 886.000 domestic workers have been regularly employed by the Italian families. 510.000, that is 57.6%, are occupied as domestic workers and 375.000, the 42.4%, are carers. The data emerge from a study by the Fondazione Leone Moressa in collaboration with the National Association of families of domestic workers. The research, considering an average salary between 6.000 and 7.000 euro and a maximum of 14.000 euro, quantifies the families’ expense of around 7 billion euro a year, of which about a billion euro for government contributions and about 400 million for severance pay.
