The Mechatronics Cluster - Entrepreneurship Training Research

The mechanics and mechatronics sector employs the largest number of workers in the Trentino manufacturing industry. There are around 9,700 workers in this sector, with just under 800 companies operating in the field, making an important contribution to Trentino exports.

With the support of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Mechatronics Cluster - Entrepreneurship Training Research, has therefore been created in order to foster further cooperation between the world of entrepreneurship, research and training in this field. The common denominator in all this will be the fusion of high precision mechanical engineering, computer engineering and electronic engineering (hence the term “mechatronics”), with the valuable support of services provided by the Provincial Development Agency, Trentino Sviluppo.

New structures and buildings with a total surface of 20 thousand square meters will host enterprises, laboratories, universities, research centres, technical colleges, all in one unique thematic scientific and technological cluster, where mechanics, informatics and electronics will be combined in the spirit of innovation.

The area dedicated to training, which will host ITI Marconi technical college and the CFP Veronesi, a vocational study school, will in fact be built on land occupied by former factory buildings. One of the leading enterprises to join the cluster will be Bonfiglioli Riduttori Spa, already active in Rovereto in the form of research centre Bonfiglioli Mechatronic Research.

Completion of the Mechatronics cluster project, for which the Province has allocated resources of about 80 million euros, is planned for the end of 2016. By the end of Autumn 2013 work space will be available in the new Technology Park, which will host businesses, laboratories and research centres.

The “heart” which drives this network is based in Rovereto, a few minutes from the historic centre, and marks the most important urban redevelopment project in recent history for the main industrial centre of Trentino, with more than 20 hectares which include the railway area and the Business Innovation Centre, active since 1988.
