TRENTINO '14-'18. FROM WAR TO PEACE

The Centenary Committee and the initiatives of the Province

First world war is a central topic in Trentino history. Preserving this memory and sharing it at a European and international level is a fundamental issue, this objective can be reached also through the promotion of Peace and Brotherhood among people once fighting against each other. "Trentino '14-'18. From war to peace" initiative is designed to safeguard assets and resources, as well as encouraging development so that they can be appreciated by visitors and tourists. There will be a wide-ranging and diversified programme of events taking place up to 2014, involving  valley communities, schools and institutes, tourist offices, associations and those working in the fields of culture and tourism.

Fields of action with a view to the Centenary:

  • Restoration of fortifications.
  • Path of Peace and recovery of trenches. The path makes its way from Passo del Tonale to the  Marmolada, over a distance of around 521 km.
  • Projects at high altitude. At the moment there are two sites which are being investigated above the snow line of the perennial snow fields. One of these is Punta Linke on the Vioz, at an altitude of more than 3,600 metres, where the archaeologists of the Libraries, Archives and Archaeological  Heritage Department are working. The other is the Corno di Cavento Gallery, on the Adamello mountain at an altitude of almost 3,400 metres, a site restored by the Historical and Artistic Heritage Office together with the Mountain Valley Department: it is possible to visit the site accompanied by guides from SAT, alpine guides and the wardens of the Adamello Brenta Park
  • Museums, exhibitions and research. Remains and memories of the First World War have been saved and displayed in the halls of 19 museums, often as a result of enthusiastic work by volunteers. The research is promoted by numerous research institutes and associations distributed throughout the area.
  • Teaching and training activities, in collaboration with schools and institutes in Trentino, the education departments of the Museums and IPRASE
  • Cultural events and promotion of tourism.
  • Rete Trentino Grande Guerra (Trentino WW1 Network) coordinated by the Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra in Rovereto.
