Entrepreneurship Training Research

Progetto Meccatronica – Mechatronic Cluster and High education Hub - is transforming an historic industrial area in a new and unique facility where, according to the highest quality and sustainability standards, we offer an exclusive opportunity for companies working in the mechatronic sector and interested in: researching, experimenting and manufacturing products with high added value; relying on highly skilled personnel trained in the facilities set up in the Hub to meet enterprises’ needs; finding a place in a dynamic environment to establish business relationships within the world of research and training.

Why Mechatronics?

The mechanics and mechatronics sector employs the largest number of workers in the Trentino manufacturing industry. 800 companies and almost 10.000 workers contribute to Trentino economy and exports (6% GDP). On top of that several research centers in Trentino are mechatronic oriented, adding a great value to the manufacturing sector.

The centre will host enterprises, laboratories, universities, research centres, technical colleges, all in one unique thematic scientific and technological cluster, where mechanics, informatics and electronics will be combined in the spirit of innovation.

The common denominator be the fusion of high precision mechanical engineering, computer engineering and electronic engineering (hence the term “mechatronics”), with the valuable support of services provided by the Provincial Development Agency, Trentino Sviluppo.

Mechatronics Cluster has been conceived as a hub and not as a closed and self sufficient science/technology park. A network which spreads its branches throughout the region, providing the services and expertise which support an entire supply chain of companies.

Rovereto – Trentino – Italia. Few minutes from the historic centre, more than 20 hectares which include the railway area and the Business Innovation Centre, are ready to use or partially under construction, with a completion planned for the end of 2016.

The Mechatronics Cluster is composed of three areas:

  • Technology Park (companies, laboratories, research centres): 15,000 m2
  • Education Hub (Technical and Industrial Instituteand the Professional training): 25,000 m2
  • Area for future development: 35,000 m2

Network, production, R&D

While the production function is the "pillar" of the new Mechatronics Hub, with 15,000 m2 reserved for activities that require the deployment of bulky and heavy equipment and machinery, the remaining 5,000 m2 will be used for office space / commercial and light productive activities.

In the new cluster, Mechatronics companies will be able to find workspaces and innovative services, and initiate partnerships within the area itself and also with major companies in the wider mechatronics cluster already established in Trentino, such as Dana, Metalsistem, MarangoniMeccanica, Pama, Coster, Capi, Fly, Adige Sys, Optoi, Eye ProSystem and others.

Why here?

Key sector and innovation - Trentino is bolstered by the presence of renowned players from sectors such as the automotive industry, intelligent systems and robotics, sensors, micro sensors; optical vision and industrial automation.

Another important advantage will be the direct contact with research centers, higher education and technical and vocational schools that will be located in the Mechatronics Cluster, ensuring qualified and trained personnel through courses that take into account the real needs of companies.

Investment facilitation and tax breaks - The companies which (following a technical and economic evaluation) qualify to settle in the Mechatronics Cluster, can also count on the opportunities and investment facilitation provided for by Provincial legislation for fixed investments, applied research, tax incentives etc, and from the the Technological Systems Fund.

Education chain: from vocational school to Mechatronic Master Course - The role of training is central especially with industries showing a  great demand for mechatronics technicians. That’s why we are looking to the most innovative and advanced examples of interaction between production and training. The educational hub  will cover an area of about 25,000 square meters within the Mechatronic Area and will host a Vocational Training Centre (about 400 people), a Technical Institute  (about 1,000 people), and a Master degree.

Based on a campus model, the cluster will feature specialized  "production laboratories" providing a real life simulation of work in the various scientific and technological areas (languages, integrated science, technology and multimedia), along with cutting-edge multimedia equipment.

High technology - As part of the “Trentino Digitale” project, an 900 km fibre optic infrastructure is currently being completed, supplementing the 700 wireless access points already available in the region and ensuring coverage even in the most remote areas. A cutting edge territory in the field of broadband and new technologies, being thus able to be the "hub for the future”.
